Hong Kong next for Ipoh girl
by Chan Li Leen

IPOH girl Wong May Yan will represent Melbourne in the coveted Miss Chinese International Pageant in Hong Kong next year.

Yup, the same beauty contest which catapulted TVB artistes Linda Chung and Bernice Liu from unknowns to to stardom.

Wong, 21, who is the reigning Miss Melbourne Chinese 2009, is a second year Accounting and Finance student at the University of Melbourne.

Unlike the Miss Melbourne contest when she was a reluctant participant, Wong is concentrating on brushing up on her talents before the Hong Kong pageant in January.

”This time, maybe I’ll do a contemporary dance. The contest is going to be tough but fun,” she said after returning home for her semester berak.

Wong said for the moment, she was focused on finishing her studies and getting her degree but she did not mind trying out acting or modelling.

”I’m not one who plans. I just go with the flow,” she said.
