No wedding dress, no banquet

IT could've been a lavish wedding, complete with jaw-dropping gowns and jewellery, and dreamy wedding photos to show off.

Something that befits a star of her status.

But Kym Ng will have none of that.

She's not planning to invite any of her fellow actors or colleagues. She's not even planning to wear a wedding dress.

Kym plans to say 'I do' in a nondescript office in a marriage registry somewhere in South-east Asia, sometime end of this year.

So forget your typical Vegas wedding - 'We're not that kinky leh', Kym chirped to The New Paper.

She's decided on the country, but refused to reveal the location. They will most likely have a two-day holiday in that same place after the registration, she revealed to me.

The soon-to-be Mrs Yang (how apt for one who always claims to be young and never reveals her age) will also hold the traditional Chinese tea ceremony in the couple's new home, followed by a four-table dinner at a restaurant. The guest list: Only immediate family members of the newlyweds.

There won't be a wedding banquet, and Kym plans to wear a kua (a traditional red motifed outfit worn by Chinese brides), specially designed for her by local designer Francis Cheong, for the tea ceremony.

She'll also shop for a 'pretty outfit' for the cosy family dinner.

But why not make it big and memorable? After all, it's her big day.

Work

Kym said before sighing: 'I'm already very tired from filming. I hope my wedding wouldn't be that tiring too. Otherwise, it won't be any different from work!

'I want it to be a very peaceful and comfortable private affair. I don't want to be hassled by cameras.'

Kym added: 'If I'm not a celebrity, of course I would love to have a loud and extravagant wedding and bask in the bright lights and flashing cameras.

'But now, I have all the attention I need already. I want the contrary.'

For that same reason, she's not registering her marriage in Singapore.

Moreover, she added, her marriage is a joyous occasion, not a big occasion. There's no need to turn it into a huge affair as she and her fiance aren't the only child in their family.

And because Kym doesn't subscribe to the notion of weddings being big social events, she won't even be inviting close showbiz friends like Bryan Wong.

She said: 'I don't like noisy and lively situations. My friends understand and respect me and so they don't ask me to invite them.'

Friends like Bryan also won't be throwing any parties for her.

He told The New Paper that Kym gets very embarrassed and doesn't like it when friends plan parties for her.

The soon-to-be married couple are considering taking bridal photos only in the future. 'It's very tiring leh! To wear a wedding gown and take photos under the hot sun...,' Kym groaned.

Children are also not on her cards now. They are too much of a responsibility, she said.

She is however relishing cracking jokes about adopting her fiance's surname Yang.

Her Chinese stage name is Zhong Qin, and she laughed as she told this reporter: 'After the marriage, I'll be known as Yang Qin (the name of a Chinese stringed instrument)!'

The couple is now hunting for a private apartment in the town area for their love nest. No need for luxurous facilities like a pool or sauna for Kym, though.

She explained: 'I don't need the facilities. I don't like to go to the gym and I won't swim. I swam in my friend's condo pool once and all the maids surrounded me. I don't like it.'
