Go from drab to fab with these professional make-up tips

GREGO OH, 42

Years of experience: 15

Claim to fame: He has done make-up for pop stars including the Pussycat Dolls and Fergie and his work can be seen in magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Elle and L'Officiel.

My signature make-up style is... being a chameleon. I've learnt to change my style in line with the latest fashion trends and am able to do both dramatic, over-the-top styles as well as everyday make-up.

My greatest achievement is... that I've been a part of the fashion scene for so many years and I'm still able to find joy in the job.

My two beauty faves are...

  • M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (Photo 2), $46, which gives amazing coverage and a beautiful radiant glow. It even gives imperfect skin a satin smooth finish.

  • Yves Saint Laurent Touch Eclat, $58, a miracle highlighter that gives your skin an instant glow. It brightens up dull areas of the face such as the under-eye area and can be used before make-up or for touch-ups.

    CLARENCE LEE, 36

    Years of experience: 19

Claim to fame: A favourite with top Asian celebrities, he has worked with a bevy of gorgeous women including Lin Chi-ling and Maggie Q. His work can also be seen in international magazines including Vogue US, Elle Korea and Harper's Bazaar Japan.

My signature make-up style is... making women more beautiful and sexy.

Their eyes must pop whether or not they are dramatically done and they should have radiant skin.

My greatest achievement is... being able to do Zhang Ziyi's make-up at important events like the Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Toronto film festivals and also at the Oscars.

It is really an honour as there are not many who can get such opportunities.

    My two beauty faves are...

  • Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment, $57, a lip balm that does not leave a glossy sheen, so guys can wear it too.

  • Bvlgari Source Defense Emulsion, $300, a lightweight moisturiser that leaves skin feeling velvety smooth.

    PETER KHOR, 38

    Years of experience: 13

Claim to fame: His work can be seen in magazines such as Her World, Female and Style. He has also done commercial shoots for brands including SingTel, Alldressedup and Nokia and holds beauty workshops for beauty brands like Chanel, Lancome and Biotherm.

My signature make-up style is... creating a healthy translucent complexion that looks dewy and natural. After creating a flawless base, I can create either a soft, natural look or something dramatic.

My greatest achievement is... that I have a very good working relationship with many beauty brands in Singapore. They have been very supportive in terms of offering me jobs as well as allowing me to preview their new products.

    My two beauty faves are...

  • SK-II Facial Essence Treatment Masks (Photo 5), $116 for six pieces, which perk up the skin instantly for a fresher and more radiant complexion.

  • Chanel Hydramax + Active Active Moisture Boost Serum, $112, a moisturising serum that I use day and night. I love its refreshing scent and the fact that it does not leave a sticky feel.

    GOH 'TG' TEE GUAN, 46

    Years of experience: 17

Claim to fame: His work can be seen in publications such as Female, Nuyou and Icon. He has also worked with celebrities including Michelle Yeoh, Gong Li and Vivian Lai.

My signature style is... natural make-up. I like to enhance a person's features through make-up while allowing her to look like herself.

One product I cannot do without is lipgloss as it gives lips a healthy shine and makes them look fuller.

My greatest achievement is... when my client - whether a model or a regular person - is satisfied with my work.

    My two beauty faves are...

  • Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 (Photo 6), $16, as it really softens and plumps up the lips.

  • YSL Volumising False Lashes Effect mascara, $46, which adds volume and length to lashes to give you that wide-eyed look.

    ELAINE LIM, 36

    Years of experience: 14

Claim to fame: The first runner-up in Shu Uemura's Beauty Art Make-up Competition 2003, her work can be seen in magazines such as Her World and Nuyou. She has also worked with celebrities including Michelle Yeoh, Stefanie Sun and Fann Wong.

My signature make-up style is... flexible. I am open to trying new things. For example, I once used stencils to apply make-up instead of brushes.

My greatest achievement is... being able to travel to places like Paris, Las Vegas and Shanghai for editorial and commercial shoots. There is nothing I like better than exploring new places while I work.

    My two beauty faves are...

  • Benefit Lip Plump Primer (Photo 9), $43, a beige lip base colour that can be used before applying lipstick so that your lip colour will pop. Think of it as foundation for your lips.

  • Shu Uemura Brush No.15, which is not available here, an eyeshadow brush that picks up pigments and blends them into the lids perfectly.
