‘I’m a work hard, play harder girl’
by Victoria Barker

YOU may remember her as one of the briefcase beauties on game show Deal Or No Deal, but former Miss Malaysia Andrea Fonseka has a slew of other achievements on her resume.

Since clinching the crown in 2004, the statuesque 24-yearold Eurasian has dabbled in modelling, hosting and acting.

This year looks to be a big one for her as two major projects have come her way – last year, she was named the newest face of skincare line Olay and she now fronts a major campaign for Olay White Radiance.

She also scored herself a role in Malaysian movie Ramly B, which follows the story of the legendary Ramly burger, a popular fast food in Malaysia. In the movie, directed by fellow Malaysian Hans Isaac, she plays the
love interest of one of the characters.

“It’s about how big a part of Malaysian culture the burger is and it’s a mix of comedy and drama,” the Penang-born lass told my paper in a recent interview in Singapore. “I’m also excited to be speaking Malay in it.”

She is currently on location in Malaysia filming the movie.

Fonseka – who splits her time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, where her parents live – graduated with a law degree from the National University of Singapore last year, but breaking into the entertainment industry has always been a priority.

After landing bit roles in Singapore sitcoms Maggi & Me and Parental Guidance, she went on to star in Channel 5 drama En Bloc and played a prostitute in feature film The Carrot Cake Conversations (2008).

Fonseka was also voted the world’s sexiest woman by the Singapore edition of lad mag FHM two years in a row, in 2007 and last year, making her the magazine’s first consecutive winner.

But glamorous though her life is, she makes sure she has time to unwind.

“I’m a ‘work hard, play harder’ sort of girl,” she said, adding that she does yoga up to three times weekly and spends a lot of time chilling at home with her parents.

And what’s her secret to looking fabulous? Being happy, it seems.

“I think looking good comes from the inside. It’s not just about physical fitness, but also mental and emotional well-being,” she said thoughtfully.

She also ranks taking care of her skin high on her list of priorities.

She explained: “I started using Olay White Radiance because it enhances your skin on a cellular level, which means it works from the inside out.”

In fact, good skincare gives her peace of mind these days.

“I used to have a lot more marks on my face, but with good skin products, I’ve noticed a vast improvement,” she said.
