Accountant with style
by Juliana June Rasul

SERINA WEE

Talk about a babe with brains.

This year, it was a pretty accountant who did more to stir the emotions of netizens online with her fashion choices than any local celebrity.

While musicians and actresses, both local and foreign, tried their darndest to scintillate with pelvis-high slits (Joanne Peh) and underwear-redundant dresses (Jaimie Alexander), it was the high-class office styling of one Serina Wee that became the talk of the town.

Serina who? If you do not know who she is, you are probably not of the straight male persuasion.

From a very serious trial about the alleged mismanagement of funds by folks associated with City Harvest Church, a star was born, wearing ruffles, pencil skirts and print jackets.

At 36, she is a good decade older than the other nominees. Also, she has never publicly spoken about her style.

Which makes it more amazing that there are netizens who have set up a Facebook page dedicated to her OOTDs (outfits of the day). It now has over 1,700 likes, though the last post was on Aug 30. The trial was adjourned in September.

Wee is definitely aware of the attention. On one of her court dates, The New Paper spotted her checking her outfit before she walked towards photographers.

FASHION LABELS

We also overheard her friends telling her she could get sponsored by fashion labels.

Unfortunately, we'll never know how she really feels about the attention and, most unfortunately, where all those clothes, bags and shoes come from as Wee declined to talk to us for this article.

When contacted, a representative for her lawyer, Mr Andre Maniam from WongPartnership, said that Wee "does not wish to provide any quote at this time".

They also stated they are "unable to provide any comments on the matter".

"Fans" can get more of their Serina Wee fix when the third and final leg of the trial starts on Jan 13, and it will last into the second half of 2014.

Here's some encouragement for you to vote for her. If she wins, we'll join the photographers outside court next month to give the Babe trophy to her.
