Canvas sneakers often give off a sporty feel. How can I wear them in a more ladylike manner?
Canvas shoes are extremely versatile.
Ms Chan Zhi Wei, stylist at multi-label store Rockstar by Soon Lee, says: "They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion or style that you're going for, and they can definitely match a more feminine outfit. It's all about balance."
For a ladylike look, match your sneakers with girlish pieces such as dresses and skirts.
Wear a flowery organza dress (photo 1, $369, Topshop) with a gender-neutral pair of sneakers, such as this one from Superga (photo 2, $69.90, Rockstar by Soon Lee), and the look becomes more feminine. You can wear this ensemble to a casual evening party. You can also pair the sneakers with silk dresses or rompers (see model on main photo).
A more casual but still feminine look would be to pair these playful printed sneakers from the Taylor Swift for Keds collection (photo 3, $69, Royal Sporting House) with this blouse (photo 4, $109) and skirt (photo 5, $119), both from Al&Alicia x Rockstar by Soon Lee. You can also wear canvas sneakers with polka dots and full skirts. Sneakers go very well with these vintage-looking pieces as they are ultra-feminine looking.
American singer Taylor Swift sported a red-and-white striped sweater with a white, knee-length full skirt and plain white canvas Keds for her promotional campaign for Keds.
She also wore a polka-dot tea dress with polka-dot sneakers. You can try this look but keep to similar colour palettes. This means if you are wearing a black-and-white polka-dot dress, stick to a pair of black-and-white polka-dot shoes and not one with pink dots.
