What readers say: On couples getting into debt for their marriage ceremony

Emma Krish

Don't try to serve a lobster at your wedding if you can only afford shrimps. A wedding is only for a day, but marriage is for a lifetime.

Just go to the Registry of Marriages and have a small family get-together - that's what I did and life's just as good without all those pretentious mega weddings.

Siti Nor'aini A S

Instead of paying so much just for decorations, isn't it better to save the money for new furniture or a honeymoon?

If you can afford it, by all means, spend. But there's no need to take a loan just to impress others.

Zulfadli Bin Mohamed Amin

Easier said than done. Regardless of whether the groom is willing, it's usually the bride or the parents who want a grand wedding.

It's really hard to find a partner who is fine with a simple wedding.
