Marc Jacobs to leave Louis Vuitton?
by Hong Xinying

If the latest rumours are to be believed, it will be a time of change at Louis Vuitton soon - speculation is high that Marc Jacobs will be leaving the fashion house.

The Telegraph newspaper reported on September 30, 2013, that the move may be motivated by plans for the designer to list his eponymous label Marc Jacobs on the stock market, as an initial public offering (IPO).

Previously in September, fashion journal WWD reported that Marc Jacobs was due to leave Louis Vuitton in order to focus on his eponymous labels Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

According to WWD, the designer however, may still "do more Vuitton collections, including the fall show in March [2014]". Marc Jacobs has been the creative director of the French fashion house since 1997.

The news first broke when Reuters reported that the fashion designer's contract with the French fashion house would end in the new year.

Reuters had spoken to an anonymous source, who had also shared that Nicolas Ghesquière, former Balenciaga creative director, may be poised to take over Jacobs' role at Louis Vuitton; talks are said to be ongoing.

The upcoming Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2014 ready-to-wear collection at Paris Fashion Week is said to feature Jacobs' "greatest hits" from his 16-year tenure so far at Louis Vuitton; a concept that is sure to attract even more buzz for the show as the date nears.
