In the 1990s, when the Baldwin brothers were the hottest acting family around, it was fashionable to call a gorgeous guy "a Baldwin".

That was then. Now, Hemsworth may be the new byword for brawny, blue-eyed, leadingman looks.

The Hemsworth brothers are from Down Under, where Hollywood has mined for strapping movie stars such as Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman.

Luke, Chris and Liam Hemsworth were born in Melbourne, Australia, to a teacher mother and a counsellor father, and grew up in the Outback and on Phillip Island, where they would all go surfing.

Chris was the first Hemsworth brother to hit Hollywood pay dirt with an action franchise, starting with Thor (2011).

His little brother, Liam, was next with The Hunger Games (2012).

Their big brother, Luke, has signed on with Roar, the company which manages their careers, and is set to increase his profile in forthcoming films such as Kill Me Three Times, a thriller starring Simon Pegg.

Luke Hemsworth

Age: 32
Height: 1.8m

Career prospects: The television actor is a mere mortal beside his two younger brothers, but with his build and charisma, he may yet become a go-to guy for action films.

Next year, he will be in thrillers such as The Reckoning and The Anomaly.

Tabloid persona: Big brother, supporting character in his youngest sibling Liam's story.

Luke and Chris are said to have staged an intervention to end their little brother's engagement to wild child singer Miley Cyrus, who recently courted controversy with her twerking at the MTV Music Video Awards last month.

Luke has three young children with his wife Samantha.

Did you know: He was the first in the family to join show business, and his two brothers followed him to appear on the Australian soap opera Neighbours.

When he set up a timber flooring company, they worked for him too.

Chris Hemsworth

Age: 30
Height: 1.92m

Career prospects: He may be the first of the brothers to win an Oscar - or be in an Academy Awardwinning film.

He is now in Rush, the Formula One drama which has kicked off the Oscar race.

As for breadand- butter popcorn movies, he is up to his eyeballs in franchises - Thor (above), The Avengers and Snow White & The Huntsman - until at least 2015.

Tabloid persona: Hunky dad. He has a daughter India, one, with his wife, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, 37.

Online, female fans swoon over paparazzi photos of him holding his sleeping baby in his bulging arms.

They say the sight of him in dad mode makes their oestrogen gush and their ovaries explode.

Did you know: His Hollywood break came when he was cast as Captain Kirk's ill-fated father in Star Trek (2009).

Liam Hemsworth

Age: 23
Height: 1.91m

Career prospects: He is the youngest of the brothers, and has enormous potential and time on his side.

Although he is locked into The Hunger Games franchise until 2015, he has found time to work with the likes of Sylvester Stallone (in last year's The Expendables 2) and Harrison Ford (in this year's Paranoia).

Tabloid persona: Lover boy. He was caught locking lips with Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez, 23, in Los Angeles on Sept 17, just a day after his break-up with Cyrus (top right), 20, was announced.

Did you know: He was to have made his Hollywood debut in The Expendables (2010), but his role was written out of the film. Following his brother Chris to California in 2009, he also did a Thor screen test, but Chris won the part.

Liam's first Hollywood role was in The Last Song (2010), opposite Cyrus.
