Where to get fuss-free DIY hair-colouring products
by Gladys Chung

There are a handful of easy-to-use options if you prefer to dye or highlight your hair in the comfort of your home. Most also come with moisturising properties.

Liese Bubble Hair Colour dyes ($19.90) have a creamy foam texture. All you have to do is apply it to your hair as you would a shampoo and rinse. It promises to dye areas which are hard to reach and the inner layers of the hair in an even tone.

The new formulas are made with a honey moisturising essence and a hydrolysed silk protein to give locks a sheen. Each box also comes with an aftercare treatment to ensure that your tresses remain silky after the dye job.

The latest shades are Raspberry Brown, a deep brown with a purple tint, and Creamy Beige, a cool brown tone.

L'Oreal Paris' Excellence Fashion hair colour ($18.90 each) now comes in two new golden shades. They are the Golden Nude Brown, a rich golden brown; and the Ashy Nude Brown, a light, ash brown hue.

The product promises rich and brilliant colours. Each box also comes with a tube of Protective Pre-colour Serum and Protective Conditioner made with amino acid and collagen to protect and strengthen hair.

You can also do your own highlights at home with Marc Anthony's Easy-Lites ($16.90, from selected Watsons stores). It works best on dyed or naturally brown hair. Just select the parts of your tresses to highlight and spray on the formula, which is made with chamomile flower extracts, a fruit acid complex, alpha hydroxy acids and hydrogen peroxide. Then flat-iron these sections five to seven times and you are done.

If you prefer temporary highlights, try Lady Jayne's clip-on Hair Extensions ($24.90 for a pack of three 30cm extensions, from selected Watsons and Guardian stores, photo 3). All you have to do is decide where you want to clip them. Then twist the section of hair you want to attach the extension to (for extra grip) and clip it near the roots.

They are lightweight and fuss-free. There is a wide variety of natural-looking shades to choose from.

Just make sure you style the extensions with a curling tong or flat iron (to match your hair texture) before clipping them on so that they look natural.
