First, they conquered music charts or movie and TV screens on their own.
Then, despite conflicting schedules, living in different countries or age differences, they paired up.
Now, wedding bells are ringing - or have rung - for some of South Korea's biggest stars, to the delight of fans.
We feature the top five celebrity couples who are making headlines.
1. Lee Byung Hun & Lee Min Jung
This pair have been the darlings of the South Korean press since news broke that they'll be tying the knot in August.
Their romance hasn't been smooth sailing - they dated in 2006, but split after a brief period of time when they realised their schedules weren't allowing them to sustain a relationship.
But the attraction never fizzled out, and they reunited last year.
The two are said to be on a "pre-honeymoon" in the United States, where Byung Hun - best known for starring in movies such as Joint Security Area, A Bittersweet Life and Gwanghae - is in talks with Hollywood producers.
His star is rising in the West, since he appeared in films like G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
The 42-year-old was also the first Asian to place his hand and footprint in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, along with actor Ahn Sung Ki.
Actress Min Jung, 31, gained mainstream attention when she starred in TV drama Boys Over Flowers and the film Wonderful Radio.
She is said to be in the US on personal business, but rumours are rife that she's there to discuss wedding plans with her fiance.
2. Ki Sung Yueng & Han Hye Jin
Swansea City football player Ki Sung Yueng and actress Han Hye Jin are engaged, and will become newlyweds next month.
Han and Ki have been dating since early this year, after meeting on TV show SBS Healing Camp as host and guest, respectively.
They're the talk of the town because Ki is eight years younger than Han, 31, who will move to Wales to be with her partner after their wedding.
She is already said to be ensconced in the 23-year-old's swanky apartment in Swansea.
3. Seo Tai Ji & Lee Eun Sung
The legendary musician Seo Tai Ji, 41, is said to be marrying actress Lee Eun Sung, 25, soon.
They met in 2008 when Lee appeared in a music video for Seo's eighth album, Bermuda Triangle.
The couple began dating in 2009, overcoming their 16-year age difference.
They are currently living together with Seo's parents. This will be Seo's second marriage, after a divorce from actress Lee Ji Ah in 2006.
No concrete plans for the wedding ceremony have yet been announced, but Lee has spoken about Seo, whom she said she adores for his "unexpected normality and easy-going personality".
4. Jung Suk Won & Baek Ji Young
Singer Baek Ji Young married actor Jung Suk Won on June 2, after dating him for more than three years.
At 28 years old, Jung is nine years younger than Baek, 37. The couple are expecting their first child this autumn.
Baek, who debuted in 1999, has explored a broad range of music, from ballad to Latin-style dance music.
She is considered one of the most popular female dance artists, and has been featured as a music coach on reality singing contest Voice Korea.
5. Haha & Byul
It was a whirlwind romance for entertainer Haha, 33, and singer Byul, 29.
They got married last year after dating for just eight months.
The couple are expecting a child, due this summer.
Haha, who originally debuted in a hip-hop group, is one of the main characters in Infinite Challenge, a popular TV show.
Byul is a ballad singer who broke out in 2002. She had several music collaborations with other singers, including Rain and Na Yoon Kwon.
