Rihanna was in so much pain

NEW details pertaining to the allegations of assault against American R&B star Chris Brown have emerged.

According to multiple reports, his girlfriend, Barbados- born singer Rihanna (real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty), was beaten by the 19-year-old after an argument in a rented Lamborghini last Saturday night.

Celebrity-gossip website TMZ.com claims that Rihanna, 20, suffered “contusions and bite marks” after the reported altercation, which allegedly took place in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles in the early hours of Sunday morning, said British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance. They noted that a woman with “visible injuries” identified Brown as her alleged attacker. They did not initially release the woman’s name.

Brown – who reportedly fled from the scene on foot – later turned himself in at a police station later that evening. He was charged with making criminal threats, and was released on US$50,000 (S$75,000) bail.

Rihanna reportedly arrived at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center accompanied by police officers, said E! News. She was allegedly treated for her injuries there.

A source told E!: “Rihanna didn’t want anyone to touch her, she was in so much pain.”

Police confirmed to TMZ.com that her injuries are “horrific”. According to a report on the website, police photos show serious bruises and swelling on both sides of the singer’s face. Her lip was split and her nose was bloody, said the website.

“We have now confirmed there are bite marks on one of her arms and on several fingers,” the website added, saying that Rihanna claims Brown struck her with his fists.

Earlier last Saturday night, the two – who began dating in 2007 – had attended a pre- Grammy party. An eyewitness told Life & Style magazine that the pair were fighting.

The party guest said: “They were in this room and they were just screaming at each other, totally cussing each other out... It was scary.”

In an interview with Giant magazine in 2007, Brown revealed a family history of domestic abuse, recalling his stepfather’s assaults on his mother, noted The Daily Telegraph.

Representatives for Brown have yet to comment on the alleged incident. In a statement, Rihanna’s publicist said her client was “well”.

Rihanna is providing “ongoing” cooperation with detectives, said the Los Angeles Times.

The allegations have overshadowed the annual Grammy Awards, now in its 51st year, where both Rihanna and Brown – both nominees for the awards – were supposed to perform.

They had both cancelled at the last minute, but did not provide reasons for backing out.
