Website lets children play Cupid to single parents

There are different versions of dating websites, but a new one takes dating to a different level – where grown-up children can help find a date for their parent.

The myLovelyParent.com portal is a place where sons and daughters can play cupid, Britain’s Daily Mail reported.

The site was launched last month by Mr Matt Connolly, 35, after he wanted to help his own mother find love.

He said: “The inspiration for the website came from my mum– a very lovely lady in her 60s, who has been single for too long. Early last year she asked me if I could help find her 'knight in shining armour'.

"I looked at a number of different online dating sites and couldn’t find any that I wanted to recommend to her. So I decided to set up www.myLovelyParent.com."

Mr Connolly said he wanted to create a website that is fun and easy to use but also safe – all profiles are checked and vetted before going online. The profiles are only visible to other members and personal e-mail addresses are not shared.

All the profiles are initially setup by the younger generation (members must be at least 18),who can sign up on behalf of a single, older relative (typically their parents but who could also be an aunt, uncle or friend).

Their parent is sent an invitation to join the website, which is free for the first three months. The parent can expand their profile and use it to meet like-minded people.

The sons or daughters can also recommend other members to their parents for a potential date – but it is up to the parent to decide if they agree with their child’s suggestion.

Mr Connolly is currently looking to boost male membership and has launched the "Older Gent Academy". Each father signed up will get free membership "for as long as they need to meet that someone special".
