Call me sexy, but where are the guys?
by Stacey Chia, newsroom intern

US MAXIM magazine voted her 'the sexiest DJ in the world'. But Sassy Pandez is a little disappointed it hasn't made her a man magnet.

Instead, the 28-year-old Londoner said all the attention has resulted in 'more girls than guys coming up to talk to me'.

'Sometimes they would ask if they can hang out in my room,' she added in an interview with The New Paper.

Pandez was in town to spin at City Alive!, a street dance party organised by the People's Association Youth Movement (PAYM) on Saturday.

The 1.78m-tall, dark-haired beauty, who turned up at the interview in a bright purple dress with gold leggings, admitted she was shocked when told about the Maxim title three months ago.

She thinks anybody can be considered sexy.

'Being sexy is about being confident. If you're confident, you are sexy. It's as simple as that,' said Pandez.

She got into deejaying about eight years ago when she was spotted at a music conference in Miami with her cousin, who is also a deejay.

Right time, right place

But fame eluded her until one year later when she caught the attention of the press while spinning at retired boxer Lennox Lewis' party.

'I'm not very good at many things, so I thought about what I could do apart from modelling and I really like deejaying, so I decided upon it,' she said.

'I've also always loved music. I used to make mix-tapes and hand them out to kids who would do my homework.'

Pandez, who is of Hispanic and French heritage, recently scored a contract with Elite Model Management.

Modelling was really her first passion, having graced numerous magazine covers and walked the runway for fashion houses Valentino and Donna Karan.

With a mole above her lip, she even got nicknamed 'Bambino Cindy Crawford' by someone in the modelling industry, after the former supermodel.

But ask Pandez if it's that mole that makes her sexy and she's stumped.

'I guess it's my skin. I hardly wear make-up. I drink a lot of water and I feel being vegetarian helps,' said Pandez, who recently worked with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) on a fund-raising event.

But she was happy to gush over who she thinks is sexy.

Giggling, she said she thinks Prison Break actor Wentworth Miller, Hollywood star Brad Pitt and R&B producer Pharrell Williams are hot.

And of course, 'my boyfriend'.

She didn't say who that is, but added: 'At the end of the day, it's still personality that matters'.
