New men in town
by Imran Jalal

Here are other new offerings for men:

1. Benjamin Barker

03-01 Cathay Cineleisure Orchard

The Singapore label, which started in Australia, opened its first store here in Marina Square in 2009. Last month, it launched its flagship store in Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, which carries its full suite of products. This is its third Singapore outlet. The store is a haven for dapper dudes with its heritage-inspired designs. There is also a selection of socks by South Korean label Cnyttan, as well as leather kicks by Indonesian label S. Woonderland.

Prices range from $79 for a shirt to $650 for a custom-made tuxedo.

2. AT-20 by G2000

Available at selected G2000 stores, including B4-26 Ion Orchard and 02-33 Raffles City G2000's new men's range, launched earlier this month, features both formal and informal looks for work and play.

Dressier and trendier than the regular G2000 range, the offerings include a slim-fit cotton twill shirt with a contrast detail and a suit with sequin trimming. Casual looks comprise trendy pieces, such as a velveteen blazer with foil print and a faux leather jacket.

Prices start from $69 for a long-sleeved shirt to $329 for a suit.

3. Suit Select

03-52 Plaza Singapura

This 11-year-old Japanese suit specialist, which has more than 400 stores in Japan, opened its first Singapore store in Plaza Singapura on Tuesday. Owned by leading Japanese fabric manufacturer Konaka, the brand's 1,000 sq ft store here resembles a men's walk-in closet and carries the slim and contemporary Black Line, as well as the more classic and elegant Silver Line range.

The brand is known for its signature Shower Clean Technology fabric, which allows dirt and odours to be removed easily under a running shower. The garment can be worn again without being ironed after the wash.

Shirts are priced from $49 while suits start from $299.

4. First Storey

01-49 Block 78 Guan Chuan Street

Opened last month, this multi-label store, housed in a three-room Tiong Bahru flat, features only home-grown men's labels. The 1,292 sq ft space stocks a total of 13 Singapore fashion and accessories labels.

These include casualwear label Steel, which creates tees with digitally printed patchwork; and Mixed, which reworks the classic polo shirt in different fabrics. There is also a range of fashion-forward designs by Crocodile, which includes capes and polo neck bibs.

Clothes and accessories are priced from $15 to $2,099.

5. The Black Label

01-61 One Raffles Place Tower 2

Since 2009, the brand has been making housecalls for its made-to-measure service. Last month, it launched its first brick-and- mortar shop in the Central Business District, offering custom-made shirts, trousers and suits which can be ordered from a catalogue of more than 4,000 fabrics. Prices vary per design, depending on the fabric used, but a shirt typically costs from $165 and can be completed within two weeks.
