Vera Wang and hubby split days after 23rd wedding anniversary

Vera Wang, the designer best known for wedding gowns, has separated from her husband, Arthur Becker, reported Women's Wear Daily (WWD).

Her company's president Mario Grauso issued a statement saying that the couple has "mutually and amicably agreed to separate", according to the report. The statement also said that Vera and Arthur remain devoted parents to their two daughters, Cecilia and Josephine.

The announcement comes almost two weeks after their 23rd anniversary. The couple wed on June 22, 1989 at New York's Pierre Hotel. Vera declined to comment, while Arthur did not respond to WWD by press time.

Arthur, then a stockbroker at Bear, Stearns & Company, reportedly worked very closely with Vera to turn her fashion line into a multimillion-dollar business. Given his heavy involvement with the company, how their working relationship would play out and the future of the brand remains uncertain. However, a friend of Vera spoke to WWD anonymously and said, "They will not let this impact the running of the company. They have worked too hard to build it up."

Vera has mentioned that her own wedding has served as inspiration to her collection. She wrote in her RSVP Club newsletter, "As a fashion professional and former bride, I am now able to translate all of that knowledge and love of style to the visual and emotional vocabulary of weddings."

The designer's wedding gowns have been worn by many well-known public figures from Victoria Beckham and Mariah Carey to Chelsea Clinton (Bill and Hillary Clinton's daughter). Her brand has also been referenced heavily in popular culture like hit TV series Sex and the City as coveted must-have gowns for weddings.
