WHEN you're thick in the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road, it's hard to imagine that just a short drive away, an oasis of calm exists.

In nearby Hotel Fort Canning, the new THANN Sanctuary Spa, offers a tranquil environment set amid luscious greenery - a rare luxury in such a central location, and a welcome change from the proliferation of day spas in the area.

Soft launched earlier in April this year, the roughly 2,000 sq ft outlet boasts four treatment rooms (including one couple's suite), each boasting a view of lush greenery.

The concept, which was first born in Bangkok back in 2005, is the spa extension of Thai wellness brand THANN which specialises in natural skincare products.

Its Fort Canning outlet joins the growing ranks of more than 20 THANN spas that already exist in roughly 24 countries worldwide.

Locally, the spa also marks the expansion of the brand's business beyond its two retail outlets at VivoCity and ION Orchard. On top of catering to the hotel guests, THANN Sanctuary was designed to be a showcase for the products within the label's portfolio as well.

"As the brand grew in Singapore, we got requests from some of our loyal customers to start a spa here," says Ray Chang, managing director of Holistic Divine Pte Ltd that distributes the brand here.

"When the opportunity came up to open a spa within Hotel Fort Canning, we thought it was a good idea to come on board as the natural surroundings of the hotel as well as our products are all 98 per cent natural."

Treatments-wise, the menu is a tad on the small side but comprehensive enough to include massages, facials, scrubs and haircare.

Some of the signature treatments include the rather new age Energy Healing Therapy ($180 for 90 mins) comprising a one- hour massage with 30 minutes of Reiki healing and the THANN Sanctuary massage ($190 for 90 mins) which is a deep tissue treatment that uses a blend of Thai and various other Asian healing techniques.

However, one of the best services is the fact that the spa allows all its customers to fully customise their treatments. For those who already know exactly what they want in their session, this is perfect. Or, you could even simply leave your body in the hands of the spa's highly skilled therapists - all of whom go through two months of training in Thailand - who will treat your body as they see fit.

Though the spa has not yet officially launched, it already shows much potential. After all, with its great location, half the battle was already won but combined with the warmth and dedication that the Thais are so well-known for, this is one Sanctuary that many a corporate drone would love to take refuge in.
