More treats for mum
by Yeoh Wee Teck

Mother's Day is this Sunday, and if you haven't already made plans for your mum, you'd better get down to it after reading this.

One idea is to get her something edible.

This can add on to your gift, and it can be shared by all, so it's a win-win solution. Here are some suggestions:

Brand's Bird's Nest

Bird's nest is always appreciated, and when you get your mum Brand's Bird's Nest, you stand to win a $1,500 DFS gift voucher.

Bird's nest is believed to keep the skin healthy and beautiful, and to strengthen the respiratory system.

A six-pack Royal Superior Bird's Nest with Rock Sugar costs $59.90. There are also others such as Bird's Nest Sugar Free ($47.50) and Bird's Nest with American Ginseng ($48.80). These are sold at most supermarkets.

Humble Beginnings Mille Crepes

These cakes are truly mouthwatering.

Each cake is handmade and has 20 layers of crepes, with cream and custard between the layers. The top layer is prettily caramelised.

The star product, the French vanilla cake, is priced at $58. There is also a range of other cakes for you to choose from.

Each cake is made to order, so you need to place your order three days in advance. Call6492 1695 or visit sgshop.humblebeginnings.com.my for details.

When the cake is ready, collect it at Cathay Cineplexes.

Or, invite mum to a movie, and after that, collect your cake and head home for another round of celebration.

Yan Ting at The St Regis Singapore

If your mum wants to go out instead, try Yan Ting at The St Regis Singapore. It has a lovely dim sum selection for lunch and is inexpensive despite the location. Thesteamed pork siew mai is $6.

You can also book an 8-course Mother's Day meal at $128 per person (minimum twodiners). It serves items such as double-boiled Queensland garoupa consomme with ginseng and braised whole abalone with sea cucumber. Call 6506 6866 for reservations.

Putien Chinese restaurant chain

Another place to consider is Putien. This is a popular chain of Chinese restaurants serving Putien cuisine. There isn't a set menu, but you can order special Mother's Day dishes, such as steamed lobster lor mee ($29.90) and mud carp fish dumplings ($29.90).

Spend $200 this weekend and you'll receive a limited-edition Mother's Day gift set. You can find Putien restaurants in shopping centres such as Tampines Mall, Parkway Parade, nex and VivoCity.

Spices Cafe at Concorde Hotel

If your mum is thrifty, tell her that she dines for free here. Book a table for three or more paying adults, and your mother gets to dine free. She will also receive a door gift and a chance at a lucky draw.

The cafe is serving an international buffet dinner, with dishes such as marinated crocodile ribs, braised duck with sea cucumber and unagi yuan-yaki. The dinner is at $55 per adult. Call 67398370 for reservations.
