Having recently tied the knot, Maya Karin is far from settled. Marriage, she tells MEOR SHARIMAN, is a lot of work. She is also busy listening to her heart -- working on an environment series for Astro and relaunching her singing career with an album. She also has a movie out next year
Q: What can your fans expect next year?
A: They can look out for Pisau Cukur, a film directed by Bernard Chauly. The shoot was completed last month. I am currently choosing film projects but nothing is confirmed.
Q: Are you also busy in the producer's seat?
A: Yes, but I am not producing a feature film. My company, Maya Karin Creative, is producing a 13-episode series for Astro on the importance of conserving the environment. It is my first project as a producer.
Q: What can we expect from the series?
A: It is not a documentary, more of a reality programme. I can't reveal too much but the topic is something that is close to my heart. I am also hosting the programme. Q: How are you going to cope?
A: I am going to take a short break from acting to focus on the programme. I am also trying to relaunch my singing career.
Q: That's cool. Can fans expect a new album from you soon?
A: The album is in the recording process. I have more than enough material for the album but I am not going to rush it. Among the composers who will be featured in the album are Sharon Paul, Audi Mok and Faizal Tahir.
Q: What is the album's concept?
A: Definitely pop but the music is going to be fresh. The album will have Malay and English tracks. We hope to release the first single early next year.
Q: Didn't you record a single a few months back?
A: It was the theme song for the movie Anak Halal written by Audi Mok called Di Sebalik Mentari. Unfortunately, it did not get radio airplay.
Q: How are you coping with married life?
A: Marriage is not all fun. It is a lot of work and it has been a roller-coaster ride for my husband (Steven Shorthose) and I. We are still adjusting to it.
Q: Are we expecting a little 'Princess Maya' anytime soon?
A: I don't think so! I am taking things one step at a time. Anyway, let Erra (Fazira) deliver hers first. Mine can wait.
