Honeysuckle is the colour of 2011

The It colour in 2010 was turquoise.

But in 2011, honeysuckle is it, according to the colour experts at Pantone.

Pantone is the global authority on colour and provider of professional colour standards for the design industries

While turquoise was a shade to escape it all, honeysuckle - a dynamic reddish-pink shade - is encouraging and uplifting.

And the blushing pink shade is the perfect tone to brush off economic blues, as it emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigour."

From paint for your walls to fashion that's coming off the runways, the gurus are saying that the colour is guaranteed to produce a healthy glow when worn by both men and women, while adding a lively flair for interior spaces.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. said: “In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues".

While the  rosy-magenta Honeysuckle hue (Pantone #18-2120) took top spot, grabbed the number one spot, other favoured colours for 2011 included the vivid sky-blue Regatta (18-4039), warm orange Coral Rose (16-1349), bright mustard-hued Beeswax (14-0941), and sea foamy Peapod (14-6324).

The rest of the colours in the top 20 list include the dusty turquoise Blue Curacao (15-4825), chocolate brown Russet (18-1235), baby pink Silver Peony (12-1206), pale purple Lavender (15-3817), and light gray Silver Cloud (15-4502).

Eiseman noted that designers have chosen a combination of cool and warm colours to create "a striking intensity in the palette".
