Jewels of every shape and size
by Cynthia Loh

If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then jewellery must be her bunch of gal pals.

There's everything from silver to gold and everything else in between with the recent launches from jewellers and accessory-makers.

Paloma Piccaso's latest collection, Marrakesh, takes inspiration from her home in Morocco, where she evokes the city's exotic charm by borrowing elements of its recognizable architecture that are Islamic-inspired. The designer, who was in Singapore recently to celebrate her 30 years as a designer with the jeweller, explained that she wanted to capture the idea of space in her designs, with filigreed pendants and bangles that are inspired by the city's intricate architecture. Her larger-than-life pieces also incorporate bold hues of turquoise, cobalt and deep red.

If you're after something daintier, there's also Paloma's dove pendants (Paloma means 'dove' in Spanish).

More budget-friendly pieces are  these cloud-inspired jewellery from Chinoiserie Blu, designed by Singaporean Way Tay who has a passion for Chinese design. A perfect gift for the girl friends who can then complement their chinoiserie outfits during the next Chinese New Year.

But if you're a modern sort of working girl, silver specialist Comyns has five new ranges of stylish accessories. All sleekness and bold curves, these add a perfect sophisticated finish to any power outfit.

But come Spring Summer, it will be colours to jazz up the palette. Swarovski's Spring Summer collection draws its designs generously from nature and its motifs, from colours that are so vibrant to figures as whimsical as the hummingbird and a bee.

With jewellery being a personal statement of who you are, there's no right or wrong if you prefer the dainty or like to make a statement with a huge, chunky piece.
