The gorgeous parade

After a two-month island-wide search for 50 beautiful people, Female crowned the winners last night in a gorgeous parade held at Zouk.

Ms Melissa Petros, 27, and Mr James Lim, 20, won this year's most coveted title - Most Gorgeous Female and Male, receiving over $2000 worth of prizes each.

There were 11 other subsidiary titles won last night, with some eye-catching contestants winning more than one award.

The Grand Finals Party saw an overwhelming crowd feasting their eyes on the 50 gorgeous candidates, all decked out in Bebe, Ted Baker, Risis and Aldo, with makeovers by Anna Sui, Sebastian Professional and Braun and wearing Calvin Klein fragrances.

Contrary to most beauty pageants, this year's diverse lineup isn't all about the looks. Personality, poise and the G factor is taken into account when selecting the finalists, which include doctors, lawyers, a veterinarian, an oil broker, engineers, musicans, a yoga instructor and more.

"Gorgeous comes in different shapes, sizes, colours and forms and I thought it was really representative of the diversity of Singapore, and the diversity of our readers,"says Female Magazine editor Mina Sunico. "This year we made a concerted effort to even look at their backgrounds, not just how they look."

In its 12th year, the annual Gorgeous People search has helped to launch the modelling and entertainment careers of past finalists, including TV artistes Belinda Lee, Phyllis Quek, Pierre Png and Andrea De Cruz, radio personality Vivien Tan, Fly Entertainment artiste Nadya Hutagalung and Andrea Fonseka.

When asked about the plans for the next 50 Gorgeous People, Ms Sunico expressed, "You have to wait and see. It will only get better and definitely tougher."
