Red-hot gowns warm up chilly night at Golden Globes

The women of Hollywood turned to the boldest reds and the blackest blacks to evoke a bygone era of sultry sirens on the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards for film and television.

“Poppy red,” a trend color for spring, was the tone chosen by stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard, Claire Danes, Zooey Deschanel, Alison Pill and Jennifer Garner among others.

“Red is classic and celebrates Hollywood’s heyday when all the most glamorous sirens often wore red,” style expert and TV host Sam Saboura said. “It’s regal and strong, but this new poppy hue for spring feels fresh, youthful and modern.”

With the unusually chilly California weather, Saboura said the blacks worn by Julianne Moore, Salma Hayek, Julianna Margulies, Rachel Weisz and British singer Adele “felt right on this cold January night, not to mention elegant and chic.”

British songstress Adele returned to the awards circuit with a vengeance Sunday, collecting the best song Golden Globe for the theme tune to the James Bond blockbuster “Skyfall.”

Adele, who earlier Sunday made her first red carpet appearance since giving birth to a baby boy in October, said the award was “for my boyfriend Simon who convinced me to do it, and my wonderful son.”

Earlier, on her way into the awards gala, the 24-year-old Adele – in a matronly black frilly-neck Burberry gown – excitedly described herself as a musical outsider at a big night out for film and TV stars.

“All these people here, like characters I’ve come to love in films and TV ... it’s very weird coming here and not being around my (music) peers,” she told E! television’s Ryan Seacrest.

Other new mums who flaunted their fabulous figures on the red carpet included actresses Megan Fox and Claire Danes.

Danes looked back to her pre-pregnancy figure, just four weeks after giving birth to her son.
