Siti to sing for Palestinians
by Siti Azira Abd Aziz

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Siti Nurhaliza’s has decided to continue singing – and her next project comes from the heart for the suffering of Palestinians.

She will hold a fund-raising concert at the end of the month organised by her own charity foundation Yayasan Nurjiwa, set up by her businessman husband, Datuk Khalid Mohd Jiwa.

“The immense grief faced by the Palestinians, especially the innocent children is such a sorrowful sight. I have stopped buying US products to show my protest,” said Siti at the launch of her latest album Lentera Timur yesterday.

The singer, who turned 30 last Sunday, hoped that other artistes would follow suit.

Her decision to continue singing must surely be good news for her fans.

Last week, Siti and Khalid, popularly known as Datuk K, had called a press conference to refute rumours that their marriage was in trouble.

Among other things, Siti mentioned about quitting singing.

“The slanderous rumours were just too much to stomach, to a point where we were both so stressed. I admit making the decision on the spur of the moment.

“Now that I have thought about it carefully, I don’t think I should stop singing. After all, I’ve gone through worse before,” said Siti.

Vicious talk about her marriage being rocky made friends and fans drop by to check on them, even late at night.

An agitated male fan had even gone to the house two days in a row and shouted Siti’s name. Datuk K had to call the police and lodge a report.

The loving couple, married for two-and-a-half years, were so fed up with all the vicious talk that they decided to take legal action against those spreading the rumours.

On her new album which was released on Dec 26, Siti said she hoped it could sell 100,000 units.

“With the current situation, I will be more than happy if the album sells 50,000 units.

“I will have to promote the album aggressively,” said the Pahang-born singer.
