Device to help keep kids safe
by Adrian Lai

KUALA LUMPUR - Parents can now keep track of their children's whereabouts with pinpoint accuracy, thanks to a new and innovative device called KiddyTrack.

Jointly launched by Maxis Bhd and KiddyTrack Sdn Bhd here yesterday, the first-of-its-kind child locator utilises the latest GPS-enabled location tracking system and Maxis's Machine-to-Machine technology.

KiddyTrack creator, Dr Sim Yee Wai, said when the palm-sized device was placed with or on the child, parents could easily locate their loved ones by sending a text message to the KiddyTrack system.

"Within seconds of receiving the SMS, the system will provide users with an URL link that shows the location of the child on Google Map, with an accuracy of up to five metres.

"In case of an emergency, the light-weight device will also send alerts to five pre-installed numbers with the press of a button," said Sim.

Family members can also monitor their children via their mobile devices or computers by logging onto the KiddyTrack web portal.

Maxis general manager and head of corporate business, Sekar Shanmugam, hoped that this innovative solution would bring peace of mind to parents.

"Each year, an average of 1,293 children are reported missing. That's three children missing without a trace each day," said KiddyTrack co-founder Simon Lim.

"This device was created to meet the needs of busy parents who want to watch over their children but are unable to do so due to their work and other commitments."

This thing is useless if they lose the device. They should the gps inject tracker into their body(preferbly near the heart). This will ensure that it is always accurate!

Huh? Trace them like those drug addicts and then apprehend them if they are found to be at 'funny' places
