SINGAPORE - 19-year-old student Miss Schvelle Ong was crowned Miss Scuba Singapore 2013 on Nov 29.
The annual Miss Scuba International pageant aims to promote and build awareness of issues related to marine conservation.
For this year's pageant, hosted by celebrity blogger Dawn Yang, eight young finalists competed in the Sports Wear, Swim Wear and Elegant Wear segments.
The finals was set against the backdrop of a marina at Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro, Sentosa Cove.
A panel of eight judges evaluated the finalists, with sales executive Miss Stephanie Ng, 19, and student Miss Michelle Koh, 23, coming in first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
Organisers also gave away five subsidiary titles as part of the Miss Scuba Singapore competition.
The Miss Scuba International will be held next month in Kota Kinabalu. As Singapore's representative, Miss Schvelle Ong will vie for a chance to make a difference in marine conservation. As part of her training and preparations, she will be sponsored to attend a diving course with certification.
The eventual title winner of Miss Scuba International will travel to major dive sites around the world, building awareness towards conservation of marine life and involving the community in various clean-up programmes.
