A Singapore-based model and former beauty queen was allegedly murdered in Islamabad over a soured business deal.

The body of Ms Fehmina Chaudhry, 27, was found on Monday and a suspect has confessed to the crime, Pakistani police told My Paper yesterday.

Ms Chaudhry, who is believed to be Pakistan-born, had won several beauty titles in Singapore, according to a Facebook page.

She was said to have been working as an actress and model here since 2009. Pakistan police investigator Javed Awan said Ms Chaudhry arrived in Pakistan in July, to buy land and set up a fashion school.

She was lured to the country by a man named Muaz Waqur, who offered to sell her land.

She paid him gold jewellery worth 3 million Pakistani rupees (S$35,000) for the land. But when the deal fell through, she asked for her jewellery back.

Waqur offered her a modelling deal instead. Ms Chaudhry went missing after accompanying him to meet "representatives" for the modelling contract, said Mr Awan.

Waqur was identified through phone records, and confessed to the murder during police investigations. A second man is being sought in connection with her death.

Local reports said Ms Chaudhry, who has two children, went missing late last week, reports My Paper.

Her mother reportedly received a ransom call from her captors, demanding 20 million rupees for her release.
