After years of living in retirement in Canada, Taiwanese female star Joey Wang Cho Yin was finally caught on camera last week in Hong Kong.
However, reports claimed that Wang's face looked swollen and "out of shape", and lamented that her past "goddess" image was gone.
With her skin looking taut and puffy, rumours also swirled that Wang had undergone plastic surgery.
Netizens who saw Wang's recent photos said they were "heartbroken" and could not bear to see their idol looking so different.
However, in an attempt to refute those rumours, Wang's friend posted a new set of photos through her microblog account, to prove that the "face change" was due to bad angles.
The photos showed Wang posing for the camera in her hotel room, with her friend swearing to "find justice" for the former actress.
In the meantime, her appearance in Hong Kong has raised hopes among fans that she may be making a showbiz comeback soon.
