Best & Worst red carpet looks of 2012
by Rohaizatul Azhar

 Here's a round-up of the best - and worst - red-carpet looks of 2012.

THE FAVOURITES

Gwyneth Paltrow, 40

Wearing Tom Ford at the 84th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles in February

Little was known about Tom Ford's fall/winter 2012 collection - his second for his eponymous label.

It was not on any fashion week schedule but was shown only to a select group of editors who were not allowed to take pictures. So when Paltrow debuted this gown - which comes with a cape - from the designer, it was a red-carpet magnet. The mother of two complemented the simple yet stunning creation with slicked-back hair and a statement cuff. No wonder she was on every best-dressed list that awards season.

THE ASIAN DISASTERS

Zhang Ziyi, 33

Wearing Fendi at the 17th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea in October

We are not quite sure what look the Chinese actress was gunning for in this ensemble. Sure, the brown bolero, which she wore like a cape, cranked up the drama. But there was just too much going on, what with the peplum detail, big red pony hair belt and multiple gold bracelets and cuffs. Why anyone would want to look like an armadillo is beyond us.
