Meet Ukraine's real-life anime doll

19-year-old Anastasiya Shpagina has been dubbed "Ukraine's real-life Barbie doll".

But the red-haired, fair-skinned teenager revealed instead that she strives to become a Japanese anime character.

She posted on her online profile page that "I am not like a doll, a doll is like me".

With her improportionately large eyes, tiny waist and long legs, she does look like she just stepped out of an anime film.

According to news outlets, make-up wasn't enough to achieve her look. She also lost weight to attain her goal. At 1.58-metre tall, Anastasiya weighs just 39kg, but she still intends to lose one more kilo.

To sound more Japanese, she also took on a moniker, Fukkacumi,

Anastasiya admitted in interviews that people on the streets are freaked out by her looks.

But the full-time hairdresser, who loves anime and Japanese culture, says she loves bumping into Japanese tourists. Their eyes widen when they see her, and some try to talk to her, but she doesn't speak Japanese and they don't understand Russian.

The bizarre trend of teenagers transforming themselves into anime characters does not seem to be petering out anytime soon.

Venus Angelic, a young Londoner, also made headlines recently for her doll-like looks.

Like Venus, Anastasiya also produces her own videos showcasing her make-up and fashion, which can be found on YouTube.

It takes two hours for her to put on her make-up.

But what Anastasiya really wants is to go under the knife to make her look more permanent.

She hopes to undergo surgery to widen her eyes and reduce the circumference of her waist, but is not sure if the surgery is performed in Ukraine.

In Singapore, a fashion designer reportedly spent $136,000 to transform her looks.

She posted pictures of herself pre- and post-operation, attracting many disparaging comments from netizens.

Despite looking like an anime character post-surgery, Ms Jacqueline Koh, 29, denies jumping on the anime bandwagon and adds that she was not insecure about her looks.

"In fact, I felt really awesome and pretty before my surgeries. I just wanted to look prettier," said Ms Koh.

These girls are crazy; they'll face lifelong problem with this obsession. Parents have to teach their kids to love and embrace themselves for who they are.
