10 homegrown models to watch

Local models are getting more opportunities to get their feet wet on the catwalk, with top fashion events like the Audi Fashion Festival, Blueprint and Men's Fashion Week being held here.

The Straits Times' Urban recently revealed their 10 picks of new Singapore faces with the most potential.

Some, like 21-year-old Sara Chan and 22-year-old Tan Ying Ying, have already chalked up years of experience, despite their young age.

Others like twin brothers, Ng Yu Ze and Ng Yu Rui, both 21, are just starting out.

The good-looking pair were spotted at a party at Zouk earlier this year, and were immediately signed to modelling agency Now Models.

One big misconception that many of these fresh faces would like to clear up is that being a model is an easy job.

Said Tan: "From casting and fitting to show days, there is a lot of work to be done."

Another misconception? That models don't eat.

"People think we don't eat. That's a gross misconception. We eat a lot. Well, at least I do," said Chan, a full-time model.

And the most challenging part about being a model? Some listed maintaining their figure as one of the hardest parts about modelling, as well as trying to land jobs in the face of stiff competition.
