Model dies from overwork
by Vanessa Valerie Tay

SHE left home when she was 16 to work and make a name for herself. By the age of 22, Ai Weiwei was a popular online model and already the deputy managing director of a media company in Fuzhou.

While one may think the world of her accomplishments at such a young age, there is another side to the story.

Zhu Xing, who was Ai's agent, revealed that the young woman frequently worked overnight, and even used to work for three consecutive days without rest.

The 22-year-old model collapsed while at work, and was diagnosed with Leukemia at the hospital. Despite her serious illness, she refused to stop working, and passed away on May 14.

All work and no play is due to circumstances. What is life growing up without much food on the table. What about half a bowl of plain rice with light bean sauce to go with?
