Ex-Weakest Link host Asha Gill is back in new cooking show

COLD, mean and stand-offish.

Malaysia TV host Asha Gill is probably best remembered locally as the host of Channel 5 game show The Weakest Link.

But the gig, which she did in 2002, turned out to be her most criticised.

Reviewers called her our TV dominatrix. Contestants on the show insulted her.

Still, the 38-year-old Anglo-Sikh makes no apologies for doing "what I was paid to do".

She told The New Paper in a phone interview from Kuala Lumpur where she's based: "I didn't have control over the script because the producers were beholden to keep as close to the original format as possible.

"If I was in control, I would probably have used acidic terms that weren't personal." Perhaps Gill will get second chance with viewers here.

She will be co-hosting a new reality TV show, FairPrice Family Cook Off, with local TV presenter Pornsak Prajakwit.

The weekly bilingual show, which has eight half-hour episodes, will premiere on Channel 8 at 8pm on Oct 22.

FairPrice Family Cook Off is her first major TV project since Lonely Planet Six Degrees ended in 2006.

In the last three years, her career has taken a backseat to raising her three-year-old son Merjaan, or Jaan, as she affectionately calls him.

The single mum said she has mainly stuck to hosting corporate events in Malaysia so that she can look after him.

>> She was stuck with ‘stupid one-liners’

sure, run to MM Lee or his family each time you're unhappy about something.

for god's sake, the article is about Asha Gill's character when she was hosting The Weakest Link and for another upcoming show and just a brief mention about her son.

here you are rambling on about PAP being out of control and promoting single parents and some rubbish about taxpayer's money. get out of your shell and comfort zone and try to look a little further. there's more to this world than just our tiny dot on the map!
