Propelled to international stardom after Michelle Obama wore his white, one-shouldered gown to the Inauguration Ball in 2008, this 27-year-old Taiwanese- American has become a face to watch in the fashion industry.
Based in New York, his elegant gowns are a favourite among starlets such as Leighton Meester and January Jones.
What is the inspiration behind your designs?
I became inspired while looking at geodes - hollowed-out rocks that have crystal formations growing on the inside. Their different colour varieties and shapes are so interesting and I love the idea of objects that are subtly beautiful.
How is designing jewellery different from designing clothes?
While the medium I am using is completely different, my philosophy of designing feminine, refined clothes translates to jewellery perfectly through the use of delicate crystals and ribbons.
What aspect of your aesthetic has been conveyed through the jewellery?
My attention to colour. It was also important that the pieces have an heirloom quality while still looking fresh and new.
I wanted the collection to be attention-grabbing but wearable, luxurious without looking too precious.
