Is Miss Hong Kong a transsexual?

[Left: Anne Heung remains unfazed by the rumours, while Hoyan Mok (above right) was mentioned by paparazzi speculating about the identity of a transsexual Miss Hong Kong.]

Senior media practitioner Stephen Siu sent Hong Kong media into a frenzy recently when he claimed that there was once a transsexual who emerged as one of the top three in the Miss Hong Kong pageant.

The paparazzi were busy speculating about the identity of the transsexual and names like Anne Heung (former TVB actress and winner of 1998 Miss Hong Kong) and Hoyan Mok (winner of 1993 Miss Hong Kong) were mentioned, reported NowNews.com.

Loretta Chu, who is dubbed the most beautiful Miss Hong Kong so far, was surprised by the rumours and expressed her disbelief.

“It’s hard to believe this, because you would know it if it is true. I don’t believe it. It’s just a story. I hope the reporters can do a fair reporting,” she said.

Meanwhile, Heung, who quit showbiz in 2008, said she is not aware of the rumours.

“TVB is a big corporation and the panel of judges consisted of well-known personalities. Surely they would not miss something like this. It’s very unlikely,” she said.

She added that while there is freedom of speech and expression, it should not get out of hand.

On the other hand, Mok is curious about the identity of the said transsexual even though she finds it hard to believe.

She said she has worked with transsexuals in the past, but insisted that no transsexual was one of the Miss Hong Kong winners.

While she found the whole thing interesting, she maintained that it is very unlikely for TVB to miss an important fact like this.

“Even if there are indeed transsexuals in the pageant, it’s not a big deal. Technically, they are women and they are very brave. We should not discriminate. Personally, I’m not against the idea of them participating in the pageant,” she said.
