Design stars - Wang Kher Sze
by Rohaizatul Azhar

WANG KHER SZE, 22

The fashion design graduate from Raffles Design Institute Singapore created a graduation collection inspired by street culture and Wang’s personal style.

The collection, K-XI, plays with textures and introduces asymmetrical lines and shapes to jackets and vests for style-conscious youths.

This is not the first time that she has received recognition for her creativity and talent. In 2008, her graduation collection for her diploma course won her second place in the best collection category.

She is one of the seven RDIS graduates in the Raffles Privato programme.

Which designers inspire your aesthetic?

I don’t have a specific designer who inspires my design aesthetic. Social issues and everyday life are what inspire me.

As a young designer, what kind of help do you reckon you need?

I’m unsure of the business aspect of the industry.

I definitely need a lot of guidance in terms of the mechanics of building my
own label, furthering my design capabilities and, of course, financial
support from government organisations.

What are your long-term aspirations?

To upgrade myself and create more artwork.

I want to push myself beyond my limits and continue challenging myself to create new and original forms of art.
