Glamour girl comes down to earth
by Germaine Lim

ON TV, Channel [V] VJ Lisa Selesner is a polished glamazon.

In real life, she enjoys roughing it out and even owns a South African hut which has no electricity or running water.

But that’s precisely why her new husband, heart-throb Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu, 35, loves her so.

Selesner, 30, told The New Paper over the phone from Hong Kong: “He found it interesting that I could straddle the glamour of the entertainment world and the simple pleasures in life, which I prefer.”

The couple, who got engaged last October in Bali after dating for eight years, said their “I do’s” early last month in South Africa.

Selesner – her father is French-Chinese and her mother is Jewish American – was born in Monaco and grew up in New York before moving to Hong Kong in 2000 .

She hosts [V] PLUG which airs over Channel [V] (StarHub Ch 531) every weekday at 8pm, and other programmes like Videoscope, VIP Access: Test and [V] Countdown.

Born in San Francisco, Wu moved to Hong Kong in 1997 and starred in his debut flick Bishonen in 1998. He shot to stardom in Gen-X Cop (1999) and has since been in blockbusters like action film 2000 AD (2000) and more recently, Shinjuku Incident (2009).

His upcoming action thriller, Triple Tap, is slated to open here on July 1.

Selesner used to date Hollywood actor Adrien Brody in the 1990s while Wu had a two-year relationship with actress Maggie Q before they broke up in 2000. But just a month after Wu’s and Selesner’s nuptials, the newly-weds were hit by bad press.

It was reported in Hong Kong that Selesner’s name is not in the title deed of the home which the couple moved into 11/2 years ago. When asked, Selesner confirmed it, saying: “We like to keep things separate.

There’s no need to have joint ownership in everything. We have separate bank accounts and properties. I have a job and I can take care of myself.

“Of course when I’m in trouble, I turn to Daniel.”

Then there was talk that it was a shotgun marriage, which Selesner laughed off.

“Daniel’s always told the media we’d get married when I get pregnant. I think he said it out of habit again two weeks before our wedding.

“I can tell you now that I’m so not pregnant.”
