Marriage records now free online

RECORDS of marriages here are available online for free from today.

Details made known are the names, partially masked NRIC numbers of both parties and the date of the marriage. Such information may be relevant to organisations such as private investigators and marriage or dating agencies.

The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), which launched the service, said the aim is to make marriage records more accessible.

Until now, such searches have been available online for a fee of for that price, however, the user received a printout of the search result.

MCYS said that, to prevent abuse by those who might do 'frivolous' searches, the number of free searches will be limited to two per person a year. Although the search is free from today, a fee will be levied for each printout requested.

To do a search, visit www.rom.gov.sg and select 'Search for Marriage Records' under the 'Services' tab.

To do a search on a Muslim marriage, visit www.romm.gov.sg and select the same options.

SingPass account holders can make use of this service.
