by Cheng Jee Yan

Chinese model Li Yang emerged as the winner of the inaugural FSO Asian Model 2010, facing competition from nine other models hailing from Korea, Indonesia, China Singapore and Malaysia.

The 10 models were selected earlier by a panel of fashion industry experts, and made their first public appearance at the launch of Fashion Season @ Orchard (FSO) on 2 April. Thereafter, they were part of the 125 models featured at the Female & Nuyou Catwalk Collection 2010 on 10 April before a crowd of more than 5,000 on Orchard Road.

At 28, the 190 cm tall professional model's credentials include walking for a Giorgio Armani show in Beijing two years ago.

Dressed in T.M. Lewin, he charmed the hearts of the voters with his chiselled jaw and dashing looks on the runway. He was selected as the winner by the general public who were invited to vote for their favourite FSO Asian Model.

Jerald Chan was one of the voters who voted for Li Yang. He explained his choice.

"I read about the FSO Asian Model contest in The Straits Times Urban and went to The Straits Times Razor TV to view the interviews of the ten models. Li Yang was the most striking model of the ten and the videos also showed he has self confidence and the X-factor to be a successful international model so I decided to vote for him."

Ms Irene Tan, General Manager of SPH Magazines, feels that Li Yang was worthy of the win.

"Li Yang emerged as the voters' favourite because of his confidence and charisma."

With the $1000 worth of shopping vouchers from Ion Orchard and Jay Gee Enterprises fashion labels Li Yang won for himself, he plans to purchase a limited-edition soccer jersey and soccer ball because he's an avid fan of the sport.
