HOW does one achieve an award-winning fashion shot? How do photographers work under tight schedules and budgets, and still produce stunning work?
These are some of the tips that aspiring shutterbugs will get to learn at the Canon FSO Fashion Photography Forum on Saturday at the Singapore Press Holdings’ News Centre auditorium.
The workshop will be helmed by Mr Desmond Foo, an executive photojournalist with The Straits Times for 10 years, and Mr Chan Wai Teik, an awardwinning fashion photographer with 12 years of experience.
Mr Chan, 38, said: “Fashion is ever-changing. It follows fashion trends and it is transient. What is deemed technically wrong in architectural or product photography may turn out to be revolutionary in fashion photography.”
He hopes to inspire people who have not picked up photography to do so, and wants to motivate people who are dabbling in photography to continue to pursue their passion.
As for Mr Foo, 38, he will be sharing tips on how to go on location for fashion shoots, and how to work with simple tools such as a flash and light reflector – and still come out with great shots.
“Photography is like problem-solving as one has to balance time, technique, light and concept in any location,” he said.
Hopefully, he added, participants can come away with this one basic piece of information: that a fashion shoot can be short, sharp and simple, without any elaborate set-up.
