What a way to snare a hubby!

SOME might call it creative.

Others would slam it as sheer desperation after a group of women in Guangzhou, China, handed out leaflets and stripped to their underwear in a publicity stunt aimed at snagging husbands.

The women, aged between 25 to 30 years old, donned masquerade-type masks and did their act near the crowded Xiaobei station.

One of them cooed to passers-by: "Please pay attention to me."  Music began playing and the girls danced while holding signs which read "Marry me please!" and "My mum's been pestering me to get married. Marry me, please!"

As they danced in the rain, they began undressing till they were clad only in bras and underwear.

Predictably, the women caused quite a stir. According to the newspaper, their act drew some 100 curious passers-by who cheered and clapped. Many were also seen taking out their camera phones to snap shots of the unusual scene.

Traffic slowed down to a crawl as some drivers stopped to gawk.

Less than a minute

But the women only managed to get away with their striptease for less than a minute as station security personnel acted swiftly after being alerted, and interrupted them.

The women told Guangzhou Daily that they did this in an attempt to get husbands.  The leader of the group, Ms Xingzi, said that they do not understand why they are still single despite their good looks and successful careers.

They said they are all white-collar professionals working in Guangzhou.  Said Ms Xingzi: "Some guys hesitate to date us because of our high qualifications. We hope we can find our other halves through this."

While the crowd did hit their target group - most of them are men - none had approached them.

Some seemed intrigued by the steamy scene but many shook their heads or expressed their disapproval when asked by reporters whether they would consider dating the girls.

Said one man identified in the report as Mr Luo: "There are other means such as matchmaking websites. This looks more like a publicity stunt to me."

With the massive imbalance in genders favoring men (sons due to the one child policy) --- come another 10 years --- it will be men clad in tiny trunks or g-strings performing this dance.
