I have a moustache- and I'm a girl
by Micah Angelie B. Lima

WHY do girls like me never run out of hair problems?

Three weeks ago, my legs had hair, which I got from shaving.

I had to wait for the ingrown hairs to grow out before having my legs waxed.

I’m a girl with not enough pants and not enough money for new pants.

So I bought a cheap pair of black leggings worth P150 (S$4.60) to hide the hairy situation.

When I tried on my new leggings for the first time, it ripped immediately.

I decided to hide the holes by wearing a long shirt and black cycling shorts.

It was a very hot and tight solution.

Even though the holes kept multiplying every time I went to the bathroom, I didn’t care.

All I wanted to do was to keep the horrible hair growth on my legs hidden.

When it was time for me to have my legs waxed, I asked for the cheap services of our beautician neighbor.

I was unwilling to pay over P500 (S$15.30) for my unwanted hair.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have enough wax.

Disappointed yet determined, I looked for my sister’s tweezers, and one by one, I plucked out all the hair on my legs—at least the thick ones.

There was a time I took my sister’s waxing kit, one of my mother’s leche flan trays and a candle in an attempt to wax my underarms.

“You burned your skin!” my sister exclaimed when she saw me with my arms raised.

“Isn’t my skin supposed to look this red?” I asked.

“No! Your wax is too hot. You burned your skin!”

It was only after our brief conversation that I started feeling pain. My sister was right: I had burned my skin.

With summer near and looking hairy in a bikini or a swimsuit a horrible prospect, I have tried every cheap way possible to get rid of unwanted hair.
