A diamond a day
by Tara Tan

From professional elegance to party girl, diamonds in subtle, classy designs can take you from day to night.

This classy gemstone helped to tide jewellers over when the recession hit the luxury market hard last year.

Says Jon King, executive vice-president of American jeweller Tiffany & Co: “In the United States, we have arguably felt the economic difficulties most dramatically.

But we were able to meet needs because of our broad range – you can always find something within Tiffany.

“The benefit of Tiffany is that it is associated with important milestones and events in life. It’s unlike the fashion business, or handbags, or travel or cars. The romance of jewellery is an important part of people’s lives, no matter what their budgets.”

Leave the blindingly bling pieces for gala events, here are some pieces from Tiffany & Co that you can wear every day.

For the well-manicured

Tiffany Celebration rings (above, from $2,800) and Tiffany Metro Diamond bangles (below, each piece is $10,000).

Wear them solo or stack them high, these delicate bands with tiny encrusted diamonds are a sight for sore eyes.

Subtle, but definitely noticeable, they will go well with elegant, satin blouses and cocktail dresses.

For the chic chameleon

Diamonds By The Yard in Sterling Silver (from $335).

Wear it long or wind it round your neck a couple of times – this iconic piece by designer-model-party girl Elsa Peretti can transform your look in seconds.

You could take it from bohemian chic – don it over a long, flowy dress – to glamourpuss, if you arrange it prettily around your collarbone.

For the glamorous wild child

Tiffany Crown Diamond Key ($2,600), Oval Diamond Mini Key ($2,500) and Tiffany Petals Diamond Key ($11,200).

The beauty of these pieces lies in its versatility.

For an edgy look, layer a few necklaces together over sleek, minimalist wear.

Go for the androgynous look by pairing them with a well-tailored power suit and killer stilettos.

For the career woman

Tiffany Setting six-prong diamond solitaire ring (from $2,250).

You do not have to wait around for him to buy it for you. Splurge on yourself.

The classic Tiffany setting is known for its brilliant cut and fire, and is a ring that will go with any outfit for any occasion.

The evergreen design will last for generations and will never go out of style.

For the party girl

Picasso Sugarstack rings in 18k yellow gold (from $1,900).

These candy-coloured gemstones look yummy enough to eat. Slip one on a finger and they instantly jazz up any outfit.

Use it to add a splash of colour to a monochrome outfit, or pair it with a vintage dress and kitten heels.
