FIRST-TIME author Dazz- Ling Chong may still be single, but she insists she has tonnes of advice on what – and what not – to do when it comes to love.
The 32-year-old – whose real name is Chong Siaoling – also performs a one-woman standup comedy routine at a Haji Lane pub.
She published her book, The Singapore Dating Guide Book For The SG New Independent Princess: How To Find True Love In The Lion City Without Losing Your Sanity, Dignity & Identity, in August.
A total of 3,500 copies were printed.
The National University Of Singapore English-language and sociology graduate said: “It’s for a niche audience, people who appreciate my insight and humour, which is not in-yourface and quite dry.”
my paper caught up with the lass to find out what she has to say about soulmates, love, and what makes her qualified to dish out dating advice.
Why did you decide to write a book?
The routines for my comedy show are inspired by the usual scenes you see in pubs, of women pretending not to know that men are checking them out and such.
That was the basis for the humour in the book.
Why is your book relevant?
It saves people a lot of grief if they know who they are and what they want, before they embark on a relationship.
My job is to help them realise who they are and what they’re here for.
Why use cartoons to illustrate the book?
I’m a humorist at heart; I like to entertain people. I drew the cartoons myself.
What do you say to people who ask why you think you’re qualified to give dating advice?
My position is of someone who’s still on a journey, but I feel I’ve gone through enough to be able to tell people how to approach certain things to get what they want out of life – which is a bigger topic than relationships.
How do you know if someone is your soulmate?
When your worldviews, how you see things and what you laugh at, match up. Both of you should have compatible temperaments. You must share the same dreams.
Any tips for singles on meeting that special someone?
Find them through your friends, because they’re more likely to know what you’re about and what you like. If your friends fail you, find a matchmaker.
