DIY Hair: Puff out
by Karen Tee

ISSAC NG (above right), 38, creative director of Toni & Guy Hairdressing 03-03 The Heeren

BEFORE

The look: A punk-inspired bouffant updo

Level of difficulty: Medium

Time needed: 20 minutes

Suitable for: Medium-length unlayered hair

Tools needed: Sebastian Professional Mousse Forte, $42.80; ZiZa Crimping Iron, from $200, both from Toni & Guy

1 Apply mousse to give hair texture and holding power. Divide hair into three sections horizontally. Clip them up.

2 Starting with the lowest section, crimp each section of the hair to create volume.

3 Section off hair from the fringe to the top of the crown and comb to the side. Take the remaining hair, twist upwards and pin until all the hair has been fastened.

4 Gather the remaining hair at the top of the head into a side ponytail. Tie with a rubber band. Flip hair upwards to form a loop. Pin to the crown to fasten hair.
