What: There’s nothing more personal than having your thumbprints or favourite snapshot etched in your rings.
The rings must be at least 5mm wide for the etchings to be seen clearly. Pick photos with tightly cropped face shots for best results. The images are printed in black and white, but coloured photos can be converted into monochrome. Engravings are done using machine by master craftsmen from Japan, Hong Kong and Italy.
Waiting time: Two weeks.

Symbols and graphics, Fairy’s Inc
What: Aside from names, initials and dates, Fairy’s Inc specialises in engravings of symbols, logos and patterns. The possibilities are almost endless. Couples have requested engravings of quirky computer game logos, musical notes and even patterns from wedding invitations. The graphics are created with a computerised engraving machine by a master craftsman, so you can expect very precise line work.

Il Regalo wedding bands, Goldheart
What: The latest computerised service from Japan allows couples to create wedding bands from a myriad of design elements. There are 10,000 permutations of various materials (yellow, white and pink gold, or platinum), ring widths, finishings (shiny, brushed, satin or textured), diamond settings (on the top or side of the ring) and engraving styles. You can view designs in 3-D on screen and from various angles, so changes can be made instantly. Initials, names or love messages can also be engraved on the ring’s surface, edge or inside.

Hand-etched signatures, Charlotte (ehinger-schwarz 1876)
What: Engrave handwritten love messages, lines from poems or signatures in your wedding bands. You can even choose to have text in Chinese or Indian script.
The rings are couriered to Germany to be engraved by Charlotte (Ehinger-Schwarz 1876) master craftsmen. Since they’re done by hand, tiny graphological nuances, like line depth and width, are apparent.
Waiting time: Four to six weeks.
Price: From $360 a ring, depending on the complexity of the design.
