WHEN I receive flyers on package deals for spa or facial treatments from credit-card companies, I always dump them.

I refuse to be baited by cheap trials and to be subjected to the inevitable hard sell when I am at my most vulnerable – either in a hot tub or lying on a treatment bed.

Even after I had signed up for a standard package, spa staff would ask me to upgrade it or add on something.

I have been flustered and annoyed that I am expected to sign up for packages costing hundreds of dollars.

I now get my facials done overseas to avoid the hassle.

I just pay, get my treatment done and go, with no strings attached.
