Teen Taiwanese bombshell Yao Yao was in town
by Gan Ling Kai

TEEN Taiwanese bombshell Yao Yao – and her famous 32E chest – caused a stir when she was in town over the weekend.

This model-turned-singer, who’s real name is Guo Shuyao, was here to promote her debut album Love’s Embrace – by hugging fans who bought her CD during the autograph session.

The event at IMM on Saturday afternoon had a turnout of around 300 participants – predominantly male.

The fans, ranging from schoolboys to senior citizens, were there to support the 19-year-old.

For one hour, she posed, sang and danced in a short red skirt.

Some of the men stayed rooted, their zoom lenses trained on her.

Standing on chair

One such photographer was 60-year-old Mr Ng, who stood on a small chair behind the rows of barricades for a better view of the stage.

He clearly had no time for questions.

After murmuring his name and saying he was not a professional photographer, he fixed his eyes once more on the bosomy singer.

Strangely, he did not surge forward with the crowd when it was time for a hug.

He stayed back as 100 people joined the queue, including Mr Peter Sng, 25, who works in the shipping industry.

“It’s very shuang (exhilarating in Mandarin). It’s the first time I’ve got to hug a singer. I’ve been wanting to see how it feels.”

His girlfriend didn’t know he was there to hug Yao Yao, he admitted, but he’s sure she wouldn’t mind because “she also likes Yao Yao’s songs”.

A 39-year-old mechanic said he was jittery about the embrace – even though it was actually nothing more than a shoulder-rub because Yao Yao hugged all her fans, male and female, across a table set up for the autograph session.

Said this bachelor who didn’t want to give his full name: “After watching her on TV, I find her very cute and beautiful.”

Almost all the men looked excited after the hugs.

Was Yao Yao worried she might meet unruly male fans who want more than a friendly embrace?

No, she told The New Paper.

“The hosts always remind the male fans to behave themselves and to just stand straight for me to hug them,” said Yao Yao.

She claimed she doesn’t wear an extra bra for “protection” during such hugging events, which were already conducted in Taiwan for more than 2,000 fans and members of the media.

In the end, it was 1003FM deejay Ken, one of the two hosts for the Singapore event, that got to wrap his arms around Yao Yao.

His colleague Jiang Jianwen also posed for pictures with Yao Yao sitting on his lap.

That afternoon, Yao Yao was also eager to prove her music talents by playing the keyboard while singing Letting You Go.

Alas, her playing was shaky (she admitted to the crowd that her skills are still elementary), causing her to sing off-key twice.

But when the hugs began, all was forgiven.
