Wear hairbands in style
by Hong Xinyi

Q I have noticed more women wearing hairbands. How do I wear one without looking silly and does it suit all hairstyles?

A The hairband is making a tiny little comeback largely due to the influence of pop culture characters like the preppy cast of Gossip Girls and hipster designers like Kenley Collins from Season 5 of Project Runway.

It is a fairly versatile accessory that is suitable for a wide variety of hairstyles, except possibly the short crop. The key is knowing how to rock this look without looking juvenile, so look for glamorously trimmed pieces that scream drama queen rather than schoolgirl.

Mon Chavon boutique at The Heeren has some lovely feathered options from $29 to $79, while Accessorize has some trimmed with pastel fabric flowers that would look smashing with the right cocktail dress.

Hairband nirvana can also be found at Far East Plaza, which is chock-full of trendy pieces.

My favourites are the punky metal-studded ones ($36 each) at a shop called The Little Flower At The End Of The Rainbow and the ones decorated with sculptural-looking ribbons ($29 each, above) at I Love Paris.
