From Oct 26, Yves Saint Laurent skincare and make-up will no longer be available at department store counters here.
The luxury French brand's award-winning favourites include its Touche Eclat - a highlighter and concealer - and creamy lipstick Rouge Volupte.
Only its perfumes will remain at fragrance counters in Robinsons Raffles City, Tangs Orchard and VivoCity.
This is a strategic move by French cosmetics conglomerate L'Oreal, which bought YSL from the Gucci group last year, to concentrate on growing its fragrance market share in this region.
'For strategic reasons, the L'Oreal group has decided... to refocus resources on the fragrances activity in Asean countries, the strongest fragrance markets in Asia,' says Arnaud Champenois, brand manager for Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Asean, a part of the luxury products division of L'Oreal Singapore.
YSL's skincare and make-up products will also be withdrawn from Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Taiwan, he adds.
Under the distributorship of home-grown cosmetics company Luxasia, YSL had three counters at Tangs Orchard, Robinsons Raffles City and Takashimaya Department Store.
The latter two counters have closed. The Tangs Orchard counter remains open till Oct 25.
Champenois emphasises that YSL is withdrawing these two cosmetic lines not because of poor sales.
However, he adds that the brand is lacking in some 'key skincare products' such as whitening and anti-ageing ranges that would allow it to 'compete strongly in the Asian market'.
YSL's latest Fall09 make-up collection will be sold at the Tangs Orchard counter till it closes.
After that, YSL fans can still get their fix at Changi Airport's Perfumes and Cosmetics stores.
